M&Ms + Popcorn = Perfection

Every now and then I get a hankering for something both sweet and salty. There are very few things that can satisfy this craving better than pouring some M&Ms into a steaming hot bowl of popcorn. The textures mingle and mix and the crunchy, salty popcorn contrasts perfectly with the soft, sweet M&Ms. You see, the hot popcorn makes the inside of the M&Ms begin to melt so that they're gooey, melty perfection. I love popcorn and I love M&Ms, but sometimes one seems incomplete without its counterpart.

But why M&M's? Wouldn't any chocolate candy work? Absolutely not. In a pinch, I've tried using chocolate chips and other chocolate items, but it simply isn't the same. The chocolate melts completely and conglomerates into a sticky mess. It coats the bowl and my fingers and makes the popcorn soggy and weirdly chewy.  The candy coating on the M&Ms keeps the melty goodness inside until it melts in your mouth (that was the original slogan for M&Ms, after all: "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand." Or something to that effect.) Clearly, no other substitute will do.

The combination may sound weird, but I give my word that next time you're craving sweet and salty, popcorn and M&Ms will do the trick!
